This article gives an insight into what a UAN is and how to activate it.
UAN (Universal Account Number) is given by the EPFO (Employees Provident Fund Organisation) and is used for linking different Member Identification Numbers (Member Id).
If an individual already has been allotted a UAN then he/she has to report it on joining an establishment to the employer/manager to mark a new Member ID to it.
After this, the employer then follows steps as below:
- Disseminate the UAN to Members and Complete Form-11 which is confirming previous employment of the individual for UAN generation.
- Enter the independent KYC Details or upload the bulk KYC by creating a text file as per the Structure mentioned on EPFO Website.
UAN is a number generated for the portability of PF accounts from one business to another smoothly without any dependence on the employer for pulling out the EPF balance. It also allows the members to view his/her account details along with former employers, start the procedure of terminating old accounts and also the movement of balances within those accounts.
